My New Life Back Home

I love Baseball and Spring Training

It’s March and one of the things I love so much about being back home is baseball. I have done a lot of traveling around the world, but the one thing I miss most about the states in baseball. Spring is a time of new beginnings and those new beginnings begin with a new season of baseball.

Spring Training takes places in Arizona and Florida. After living several years in Phoenix, I am impartial to Arizona spring training. To fully appreciate and participate in spring training, you need to devote a few weeks to it and really get to know the players and catch the action. To this end, checking out Scottsdale rentals is a great way to find a comfortable home away from home.

Scottsdale Fine Properties has a nice collection of vacation homes that make your spring training vacation even better. Scottsdale is close to all the action and has some of the best homes in the Phoenix area. Hmm, now if I can just convince my wife that we need to make a trip to Arizona.

Jobs for the Newly Repatriated

After spending so long abroad, it can be tough coming home and making a go of things. One of the big problems is that while other people have been advancing their careers, TEFLers have been putting their careers in the backseat. In order to be successful, you need to use the skills you gained abroad to the best of your ability.

Here are three job ideas for the newly repatriated TEFL teachers that can take advantage of their skills.

1) Real Estate. It’s what I choose. When you have experience traveling, real estate really matches this well. You have big dreams and you can share them.
2) Writing. If you spent years abroad, you might have done a lot of writing. Use those communication skills.
3) Taxi Driver. Don’t laugh. I know several people who have chosen these jobs because it reminds them most of their freedom abroad.

Now, it is your chance to add to the list.

Don’t Need to Wait for Compensation

When my mother got compensated after the death of my father from a wrongful death lawsuit, she had to wait years for the settlement to come through. It was a tough thing to lose my father, her sole support, and then have to wait years to get her rightful compensation. Financially, it was devastating for her.

Too bad that we didn’t know about lawsuit financing at the time. AnyLawsuits.com offers lawsuit financing whereby you get an advance on your legal settlement. It sure would have helped my mom at the time.

Build Equity Instead Of Paying Rent

Ok, I know that real estate is not that much of a traditional focus of this site, but it’s an interest of mine and it should be an interest of anyone wanting to save money. I noticed one thing about teachers who were more stable and less prone to TEFL slavery that I talked about in a previous post and that was that they owned real estate.

Real estate is a great store of value. Instead of putting money every month into a rental, you can spend the same amount putting equity into a home. Isn’t that smarter? Save money instead of giving it to a landlord? I think any teacher spending more than a few years in one location needs to look seriously into buying a home. It’s a way to get ahead. Sure it make take a lot of scrimping and saving to get the money together to buy a home, but it will pay off in the long term.
