Abuses Against TEFL Teachers in China

The new Chinese economy is undergoing changes at a rapid pace and has an extreme need for English (TEFl) teachers. While many positions are good, there are a few bad apples out there. Surprisingly, in early August AP ran this article about the abuses in China. Some of the abusive behavior committed against teachers are scary to say the least and would make me think twice about teaching in China. I would like to hear your comments about both the good and bad of working in China.

The Bogeyman

If you have picked up a paper or shuffled over to Google News anytime in the last week, you would find a large number of articles that try to lump all TEFL teachers into a bunch of lazy criminals who hide behind the English Teaching profession in their life abroad. What a bunch of BS that is. It is so far from the truth. I am still waiting to find one news article that talks about the great good that TEFL teachers are doing. I know we are doing good, I can see it my students eyes and see it in the happiness they have in mastering a new language.
