School Frustrations

Talking with a friend of mine, I realize that school frustrations aren’t just the domain of teachers. Sure we get frustrated with schools, but so do students. They get frustrated with schools just as much as we do, if not more.

Firstly, it’s not as easy for them to leave the school as it is for us teachers. We can easily leave and find something new.

Secondly, they are not getting paid, in fact they are paying to go to the school. If they are unable to affect change in the school, how much less can we as teachers ever do?

Just something to think about!

A Shuffle Around the TEFL World

There is a bit of shuffle going on around the TEFL World today. TEFLWatch.Org used to have a forum in a subdirectory, but it seemed to be an active dungeon filled with trolls. Attempts at cleaning it up have fallen on deaf ears so something new had to be done. As of today, the TEFLWatch Forum has been separated from TEFLWatch.Org and now each site has its own focus.

TEFLWatch.Org will have the school ratings, the Hall of Shame and other teaching related rants while TEFLWatch Forum will offer instant feedback on teaching issues and resources. By having this separation, it’s hoped that teachers can have better access to information.

Collecting Lesson Plans

I love collecting lesson plans, though I must admit a lot of them are gathering dust lately. See, I have collected and kept every lesson plan I have done in the last 3 years of teaching. It’s great for going back over and seeing what I taught before and how I taught before. It was a real big plus for my teaching.

Now, alas, they gather dust. I sure wish there was an easy way to put them on the net. Maybe I shall devote a section of this site for them so that other teachers can take advantage of them.

Making a Midnight Run

Thinking about taking a midnight run? Thinking about a midnight flit? Well, if you are teaching in Korea, there is some advice you can take before making that midnight run. It’s important to really think it out and plan before making that midnight run and that post really gets you to thinking about it. The best advice that I saw in the post was not to tell anyone about your plans. That’s so true. There are always other TEFL teachers that can stitch you up. Until you are on that airplane on a flight home, you are still at the mercy of the situation you are running from.
